About 2048
2048 is a sliding number puzzle. Every move slides all the tiles, and two tiles with the same number join into one with double the value: 2 and 2 make 4, 4 and 4 make 8, all the way up to 2048. Our version is ad-free and uses big, bright tiles that are easy to read on a classroom screen.
How to play 2048
- Use the arrow keys, or swipe on a phone or tablet, to slide every tile.
- When two tiles with the same number touch, they join and double.
- A new 2 or 4 appears after each move. Make 2048 to win, and keep going if you like.
Using 2048 in the classroom
- Whole-class version: students vote on the next move with hand signals.
- Strategy talk: why do good players keep the biggest tile in a corner?
- Connect to math: list the powers of two the class reaches (2, 4, 8, 16…).
