About Brain Break Lab

Brain Break Lab makes quick, free brain breaks for elementary classrooms: riddles sorted by grade, This or That and Would You Rather movement breaks, and simple games that work on the classroom screen.

Why we built it

Teachers already use riddles and movement breaks every day, but most riddle pages are long lists with the answers printed right under the questions, no grade levels and a lot of ads. That's hard to put on a projector in front of 25 kids. So we built the version we wanted: one riddle per screen, answers hidden until you're ready, a timer, team scores and a one-line explanation that turns every riddle into a tiny vocabulary lesson.

How we write and check our riddles

  • One clear answer. If a riddle has two good answers, we rewrite it or drop it.
  • The right grade. Every riddle is tagged with a grade from kindergarten to 5th. Younger grades get clue riddles about familiar things; wordplay starts in earnest around 2nd and 3rd grade, when kids begin to understand double meanings.
  • A “why it works” line. Every answer comes with one sentence that names the trick or the clue.
  • Classroom-clean. Nothing scary, gross, violent or grown-up. No religion, politics or brand names.
  • In our own words. We include the classic riddles teachers look for, rewritten by us, alongside new ones written for this site.

What we don't do

  • No accounts, no sign-ups, no comments.
  • No ads on our riddles, questions or presenter.
  • No personal information collected from anyone. See our privacy policy.

Found a problem?

If a riddle has a second answer we missed, a question doesn't fit your classroom, or a game stops loading, we want to know. We check every page regularly and fix what we find.
